An Equity Market is a market in which shares are issued and traded, either through exchange or over-the-counter markets. Also known as the stock market, it is one of the most vital areas of a market economy because it gives companies access to capital and investors a slice of ownership in a company with the potential to realize gains based on the futures performance. In the Indian stock market, equities are available for trading at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). It is the place where buyers and sellers meet to trade in listed companies. Listed companies are those entities that have offered some part of their equity to public investors.
The securities market has two interdependent and inseparable segments, the new issues (primary) market and the stock (secondary) market.
